SEVEN TRACK & FIELD RECORDS SET IN CALGARY Six athletes from Passtrak, (Crowsnest Pass Track & Field Club), competed in 24 events at a 1 day mini-meet in Calgary on Sunday February 19th. They racked up 4 life time best performances out of a possible 7, set 7 new Passtrak club records for their age groups & earned 7 top 3 finishes. Eliora Vandersteen had 4 events in the U12 girls age group. She set a new Passtrak club record of 9.43 seconds in the 50 metre sprint for 7th place. She set a second record in the medicine ball throw with a toss of 3.05 metres for 8th place. She also cleared 2.45 metres in the long jump for 10th place & cut 6 seconds off her previous 600 metre race time by finishing 5th in 2:30.72. Tristen McKerracher had 4 events in the U12 boys division. He also set a new Passtrak club record in the medicine ball throw with a 3.85 metre heave for 6th place. In his other events he finished 10th in the 50 metres in 8.82 seconds, 9th in the 600 metres in 2:38.15 & 6th in the long jump by spanning 3.62 metres. Aiden Aasen was also in the U12 boys group with the same 4 events. He placed 8th in the 50 metres in 8.61 seconds & 7th in the long jump at 3.48 metres. He also set a record in the medicine ball throw at 4.09 metres which placed him 5th. As his finale he ripped his 600 metre race in 2:05.96, a life time best, for 1st place. Declan Sutherland was Passtrak’s 3rd entry in the U12 boys competition. He had some trouble finding the take off board in the long jump & ended up 9th with a measurement of 3.41 metres. He then grabbed 4th spot in the 50 metres by clocking 8.23 seconds. He earned 2nd place in the 600 metre race with a time of 2:11.40 & took top honours in the medicine ball throw when he tossed it 4.34 metres setting the Passtrak record. The club had 2 athletes in the U14 boys category. William Vandersteen set a new Passtrak club record of 8.66 seconds in the 50 metres for 4th place. He then whacked 8 seconds off his previous best time in the 600 metres by stopping the clock at 2:19.01 for 4th place. He recorded 2 other 4th place finishes with a 3.50 metre leap in the long jump & a 10.35 second time in the 60 metre sprint. Eli Bailey also set a new club record in the 50 metre sprint. He finished in 1st place with a time of 7.56 seconds. Clearing 4.21 metres in the long jump earned him another 1st place result. He then ran the fastest 600 metres of his life in 2:03.16 for 2nd place. He finished the track meet with 3rd place in the 60 metre sprint, timing 9.07 seconds. A mere .003 seconds from 2nd place.

FIRST TRACK MEET OF 2023 Thirteen Passtrak athletes traveled to Calgary on January 8th for their first competition of the new year. They produced 14 life time best performances and set 8 new Passtrak club records. Their efforts also earned them 23 top 3 placings with 5 firsts, 11 seconds and 7 third place finishes. Finnley Hay was in his first official track and field meet. He had 3 races in the under 10 boys group and placed 3rd in all 3 events. His time in the 60 metres was 13.03 seconds, 35.59 seconds in the 150 metres and 1:18.51 in the 300 metres which set a new Passtrak club record for his age group. Norah Smith had 3 races in the 10 year old girls group. She ran the fastest 60 metres of her life in 10.87 seconds for a first place finish. She placed second in the 150 metres in 29.25 seconds and 3rd in the 300 metres in 1:09.12. Declan Sutherland and Aiden Aasen were in the 11 year old boys division. Declan ran the fastest 60 metres of his life in 9.68 seconds for first place. He also took first in the 300 metres in 54.56 seconds. He set a new Passtrak club record for his age group in the 1200 metres finishing in 4:44.33 for 2nd place. Aiden placed second in the 150 metres in 26.09 seconds and placed second in the 300 metres as well in 54.88 seconds. His 1200 metre time of 4:29.56 placed him first and also set the club record. Cammy Hay’s 3 races were in the 12 year old girls category. Her 10.21 in the 60 metres placed her 7th, then she ran her fastest 150 metres ever in 25.47 seconds for 9th place. Her final event was the 400 metres where she placed 6th in 1:31.77. Jasper Smith represented Passtrak in the 12 year old boys events. His fastest ever 150 metres was timed in 26.65 seconds for 7th place. He finished 4th in the 400 metres in 1:22.55 which was also a life time best. He capped off his day by placing second in the 1200 metres in 5:06.96 which slashed 35 seconds off the previous Passtrak club record for his age group. Ella Peebles had 3 races in the 13 year old girls group. She had a stellar day where she improved her time in all 3 of her events. She placed 8th in the 60 metres in 9.44 seconds, 7th in the 150 metres in 23.96 seconds and 7th in the 400 metres in 1:18.21. Eli Bailey was Passtrak’s lone participant in the 13 year old boys events. He placed 3rd in the 60 metres in a best ever time of 9.01 seconds. His 23.24 seconds in the 150 metres was also a best ever and earned him 4th place. His 400 metre time of 1:13.96 was good enough for 3rd place. Passtrak had 3 boys in the 14 year old division and they swept the podium taking the top 3 spots in the 60 metre hurdles race. Cohen Folkard was 1st in 10.86 seconds, Colton Sutherland was 2nd in 12.46 seconds and Carson Hay was 3rd in 13.50 seconds. Cohen then carved 31 seconds off his previous 400 metre time to finish 2nd in 1:05.50. Colton placed 4th in that same race in 1:09.06 cutting 16 seconds off his previous best. Carson’s second event was the 150 metres where he ran a life time best of 27.54 seconds for 9th place. All 3 boys ran the 1200 metres. Cohen finished 2nd in 4:11.89 which whacked 22 seconds off the previous club record. Colton broke the previous club record as well, by 9 seconds running 4:24.59 to finish 4th. Carson crossed the finish line in 5:13.95 to grab 6th place. Jack Bailey, a Passtrak veteran, had 2 races in the under 20 age group. Unfortunately he was disqualified in the 60 metre hurdles when he stumbled and touched one of the hurdles with his hand. That may have motivated him for his 600 metre race because he cut 20 seconds off his previous time finishing 6th in 1:37.98. Craig Hay had 2 races in the 40 - 44 year old Masters division. He set a new Passtrak club record of 51.59 seconds in the 300 metres for 2nd place. He also set a club record 6:51.00 for the 1500 metres for another 2nd place finish. Eli, Aiden, Jasper & Declan then finished the day off by taking 2nd place in the 4 x 200 metre relay.

PASSTRAK ATHLETES PREVAIL AT THE ALBERTA PROVINCIAL CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2022 Alberta Provincial Cross Country Running Championships were staged in Calgary on Saturday November 5th. In spite of the cold weather, ankle deep snow & blustery wind conditions, 20 Passtrak athletes braved the elements to stand toe to toe with the powerhouse big city clubs from around the province. Their tenacity in the face of adversity earned them some outstanding accolades for their efforts. Ellie Vandersteen & Norah Smith represented the club in the U10 girls 1 km race. Ellie placed 6th in 6 minutes 44 seconds & Norah was close behind in 9th clocking 7 minutes & 6 seconds. Three Passtrak boys contested the U10, 1 km race. Tristen McKerracher finished 12th in 9 minutes 24 seconds, Finnley Hay finished 11th in 8 minutes 18 seconds & Holden Lach grabbed 8th place crossing the finish line in 6 minutes 51 seconds. The distance for the U12 girls race was 1.2 km. Nellie Cockrell finished the race in 10 minutes 20 seconds to earn 13 place while Tammy Hay claimed 11th with a time of 8 minutes 49 seconds. The U12 boys also ran the 1.2 km course. Passtrak had 4 boys entered in this event which was the minimum number required to qualify for the team event. With all 4 of the Passtrak athletes placing in the top 10, they scored enough points to earn themselves the Provincial Championship silver medal. Their individual results reflected why they did so well as a team. William Vandersteen placed 10th in 7 minutes 45 seconds. Jasper Smith placed 9th in 7 minutes 35 seconds. Declan Sutherland placed 8th in 7 minutes 10 seconds & Aiden Aasen crossed the finish line in first place stopping the clock at 6 minutes 28 seconds. Ella Peebles was Passtrak’s sole entry in the U14 girls 2 km race. She represented the club well by finishing in 19th place in 12 minutes 54 seconds. The U14 boys division had Passtrak’s largest contingent with 5 runners in the 2 km event. Their commitment to the team earned them the Provincial Championship gold medal. Eli Bailey & Carson Hay finished in 15th & 16th respectively both clocking 11 minutes & 34 seconds in a photo finish. Nate Lach crossed the finish line 12th in 10 minutes 42 seconds. Cohen Folkard was 6th place in 9 minutes 40 seconds & Colton Sutherland picked up an individual silver medal by finishing 2nd in 9 minutes 13 seconds. For the U16 girls event the distance was bumped up to 4 km. Bella Moller represented Passtrak & completed the course in 26 minutes 27 seconds for 19th place. Jack Bailey ran 6 km in the U18 boys category. He finished in 28th recording a result of 31 minutes 19 seconds. Rosanne Vandersteen braved the elements for the longest period of time. The Master Women’s, (35+ years), course covered an 8 km distance. In near white out conditions she persevered finishing the race in 1 hour 2 minutes & 27 seconds for 4th place.

2022 Canadian Indoor Championships

COHEN MUSSCHOOT - CANADIAN CHAMPION The 2022 Canadian Indoor Track & Field Championships took place in Saint John New Brunswick on March 26 & 27. Cohen Musschoot from Passtrak represented his club in the U16 boys division & he did so in a stellar manner. On Saturday March 26th Cohen was entered in the Pentathlon. It is the event that measures the abilities of the best all around athlete in the sport of track & field. The athletes compete in 5 events in one day to showcase their ability to run fast, run far, jump & throw. They receive points for the performance they produce in each event. The faster you run the more points you score. The farther you jump or throw the more points you score. The first event of the day was the 60 metre hurdles. Cohen recorded the fastest time of his life by stopping the clock at 10.60 seconds for which he was awarded 433 points. Event number 2 was the long jump. Cohen’s best attempt spanned 4.79 metres, just 1 cm shy of his best ever which earned him 343 points. The third event was the high jump where he was a little short of his best with a 1.33 metre clearance. That was good enough for 270 points. Next came the shot put where he passed the 9 metre mark for the first time ever with a best of 9.12 metres. That distance scored him 433 points. The final event of the day was the 1000 metre race. He dug deep & slashed more than 12 seconds off his previous best by finishing in 3:25.76 for a total of 434 points. His point total for the day was 1913 which eclipsed the previous Passtrak club record for his age group by 330 points. THAT SCORE WAS ALSO GOOD ENOUGH TO CROWN HIM AS THE 2022 CANADIAN INDOOR CHAMPION IN THE U16 AGE GROUP!!! On the second day of the competition Cohen added some fuel to the fire. He competed in the individual shot put event where picked up a second Canadian Championship medal, this time a 3rd place bronze, by again surpassing his shot put best when the implement landed at the 9.39 metre mark.

2022 Provincial Indoor Championships

2022 ALBERTA PROVINCIAL INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS The Championship meet took place at the University of Alberta track & field facility on March 5th & 6th. Nine Passtrak athletes took part in 36 events. Every athlete who previously competed improved in one or more of their events during the 2 day competition. In total they improved in 18 out of 21 events that they had previously contested. The athletes also produced 4 new Passtrak club records & earned 1 first, 2 second & 4 third place finishes. Norah Smith was in her first official track & field meet. She placed 10th in the U10 girls 60 metres in 11.48 seconds & 6th in the 400 metres in a time of 1:35.57 which set a new Passtrak club record for her age group. In the standing long jump she cleared 1.50 metres for 5th & she finished in 1st place in the shot put with a 3.59 metre toss. Felix Neniska competed in the U12 boys division. This was his first official indoor track meet as well. He placed 20th in the standing long jump with a leap of 1.27 metres. He moved up to 18th in the 60 metres in a time of 11.69 seconds & 16th in the 400 metres in 1:36.46. His final event was the shot put where he recorded a 4.98 metre toss for 9th place. Marley Winter & Cammy Hay completed 4 events each in the U12 girls category & they both produced life time best performances in 3 of the 4 events. Marley placed third in the 60 metres in 9.68 seconds & Cammy placed 12th in 10.25 seconds. In the 400 metres Marley placed 12th in a personal best of 1:24.69 & Cammy finished 22nd in a personal best of 1:31.69. Cammy added 1.19 metres to her previous best in the shot put, topping out at 4.69 metres for 13th place. Marley improved her shot put as well by 1.40 metres. Her distance of 5.01 metres earned her 10th place. Both girls shone the brightest in the standing long jump. They both surpassed the existing Passtrak club record. Marley cleared 1.91 metres for 3rd place while Cammy broke the 2 metre mark with a 2.02 metre measurement for 2nd place. Jasper Smith had an outstanding meet in the U12 boys division. He produced life time best performances in all 4 of his events. He placed 14th in the 60 metres in a personal best of 11.07 seconds & 5th in the 400 metres with a personal best of 1:24.66. His shot put improved by over a metre with a 5th place toss of 5.44 metres. He placed 5th again in the standing long jump with a personal best leap of 1.78 metres. Carson Hay & Cohen Folkard represented their club in the U14 boys group. Cohen ran the fastest 600 metre race of his life, finishing in 1:54.67 for 6th place. He finished 13th in the 60 metres in 9.83 seconds & 7th in the long jump with a distance of 3.37 metres. His highest finish was 3rd in the shot put with a heave of 7.20 metres. Carson improved in 3 events. His best ever 60 metre time was 11.20 seconds for 22nd & his best ever 600 metre time was 2:11.47 for 19th. His other improvement came in the long jump where he spanned 3.15 metres for 16th. His final event was the shot put where he finished 12th with a 5.24 metre measurement. Eve Winter ran the fastest 60 metres of her life in the U16 girls division. She clocked 8.81 seconds for 15th place but unfortunately also injured herself in the process. That forced her to scratch 3 of her remaining events but she was able to compete in the shot put where she had a life time best result of 5.44 metres for 11th place. Cohen Musschoot was Passtrak’s busiest athlete, competing in 5 events over the 2 days in the U16 boys category. He ran the fastest 60 metres of his life in 8.26 seconds for 12th place. He added a whopping 30 cm. to his high jump best by clearing 1.40 metres for a 3rd place finish. His 60 metre hurdle time was 10.79 seconds for 4th. His 8.79 metre shot put earned him 5th & his 4.80 metre long jump placed him 8th. The crowning finish to Saturdays schedule was the U12, 4 x 200 metre mixed gender relay. Passtrak’s team of Jasper Smith, Cammy Hay, Felix Neniska & Marley Winter covered the distance in 2:38.90 to set a new Passtrak club record & bring home a Provincial Championship silver medal.

Dino Classic Results

PASSTRAK ATHLETES SHINE AT CALGARY TRACK MEET Seven Passtrak athletes attended the Dino Classic track meet at the University of Calgary on Sunday January 30th. Each athlete competed in 3 races, the 60 metres, 150 metres & 600 metres. Each athlete achieved a personal best time in 1 or more of their races. They also earned 2 first, 5 second & 4 third place finishes for their efforts. Aiden Aasen finished 6th in the 10 year old boys 60 metre race in 10.90 seconds. He recorded a 5th place finish in the 150 metre race in 26.72 seconds which tied his best ever performance in that event. His final event of the day was the 600 metres where he placed 2nd in 2:13.78. Declan Sutherland was in the 10 year old boys group as well. He placed 2nd in the 60 metres in 10.02 seconds. He also placed 2nd in the 150 metres in a personal best time of 25.30 seconds. He finished his day with a first place finish in the 600 metres in 2:12.65. Cammy Hay was in the 11 year old girls division. She improved in all 3 of her events. She placed 2nd in the 60 metres in a personal best time of 10.15 seconds, 4th in the 150 metres in a personal best of 26.17 seconds & 4th again in the 600 metres in 2:43.94, another personal best. Ryan Morado represented Passtrak in the 12 year old boys category. This was his first official track meet in a Passtrak uniform. He placed 4th in the 60 metres in 10.22 seconds, 3rd in the 150 metres in 25.28 seconds & he nabbed first place in the 600 metres in 2:07.68. Cohen Folkard, Colton Sutherland & Carson Hay all competed in the 13 year old boys division. All 3 of them produced life time best performances in all 3 of their events. Cohen placed 3rd in the 60 metres in 9.66 seconds, 3rd in the 150 metres in 24.21 seconds & 2nd in the 600 metres in 1:57.15 which was a massive 33 second improvement. Colton placed 5th in the 60 metres in 9.89 seconds, 4th in the 150 metres in 24.71 seconds & 3rd in the 600 metres in 2:00.31 which was a 15 second improvement. Carson placed 7th in the 60 metres in 11.40 seconds, 6th in the 150 metres in 28.71 seconds & 2:13.00 in the 600 metres which was a 21 second improvement. This track meet was the conclusion to a 2 part series of track meets that were open to all the clubs in Alberta. The athletes were awarded points for their placing in each race they contested. Following the final event, the athletes in each age group with the highest point totals were given gold, silver or bronze medals for placing in the top 3 positions overall. Seven Passtrak athletes finished in a medal position. Declan Sutherland received a gold medal for finishing 1st in the 10 year old boys division. Aiden Aasen received a bronze medal for placing 3rd overall in the 10 year old boys division. Marley Winter picked up a silver medal for finishing 2nd overall in the 11 year old girls group. Ryan Morado also earned a silver in the 12 year old boys group. Cohen Folkard earned a silver for 2nd overall in the 13 year old boys group & Colton Sutherland picked up the bronze medal in the 13 year old boys division. The clubs next competition will take them to the University of Alberta in Edmonton on March 5th & 6th. This will be the athletes first opportunity this season to compete in jumping & throwing events along with the races.

Dino Opener Results - Dec. 5th

TRACK IS BACK!! The first indoor track meet of the 2021 - 2022 season took place at the University of Calgary on Sunday December 5th. Passtrak, (the Crowsnest Pass Track & Field Club), was well represented with 8 athletes taking part in 25 races during the 1 day event. There were 13 races that the athletes had competed in previously & they proceeded to improve their times in all 13 events. They also racked up 12 top 3 finishes, 4 firsts, 3 seconds & 5 thirds & set 6 new Passtrak club records for their age groups. Declan Sutherland was competing in his first official track meet as a Passtrak athlete. He placed second in the 9 year old boys 150 metres in 25.85 seconds & first in the 60 metres in 9.97 seconds. He set a new club record with a first place finish of 1:21.43 seconds in the 400 metre race. Aiden Aasen was also in his first official meet in a Passtrak uniform. He notched 3, third place finishes in the 9 year old boys group. He ran 10.74 seconds in the 60 metres, 26.72 seconds in the 150 metres & also broke the existing club record in the 400 metres in 1:25.41. Marley Winter had 3 races in the 10 year old girls division. She placed 4th in the 400 metres in a new club record time of 1:25.96. She finished second in the 150 metres in a life time best of 25.15 seconds & took first place in the 60 metres with another personal best of 9.66 seconds. Ella Peebles ran in the 11 year old girls events. She placed 15th in the 60 metres in 10.23 seconds & 15th in the 150 metres in 25.77 seconds. Her 400 metre time was 1:25.01 which earned her 10th place. Cohen Folkard produced 3 personal best performances in the 12 year old boys races. He ran the 60 metres in 9.96 seconds for 6th place & 24.88 seconds in the 150 metres for 5th spot. Then he finished off the day with a 2:45.39 for 3rd in the 800 metres. Colton Sutherland ran the same 3 races in the 12 year old boys category. He finished 7th in the 60 metres with a personal best of 9.96 seconds. Then he ran 25.25 seconds in the 150 metres for another personal best & another 7th place finish. He capped off the day with a 4th place finish in the 800 metres in 2:55.15. Eve Winter represented the club in the 13 year old girls races. She improved her times in all 3 of her events. She placed 2nd in the 60 metres in 8.82 seconds. Next she ran the 150 metres in 22.42 seconds for 4th place. Her third event was the 800 metres where she finished 9th in 3:05.80. Cohen Musschoot rewrote the Passtrak record book in the 13 year old boys age group. He came 3rd in the 60 metres in 8.28 seconds for a life time best & a new club record. Next he posted a 20.02 result in the 150 metres for 4th place, a life time best & another Passtrak club record. He finished the day with another 4th place finish in the 800 metres where he ran 2:29.82 for yet another life time best & new club record. Just to put the cherry on top, Declan, Colton, Cohen F. & Cohen M. ran together in the 12 & 13 year old boys 4 x 200 metre relay which they completed in 2:11.07 for a first place finish. The clubs next competition will take place at the University of Calgary on January 9th.
