2020 ATHLETICS ALBERTA PROVINCIAL INDOOR TRACK & FIELD RANKINGS Although Covid stole the 2020 outdoor track & field season from the athletes in Alberta, the Provincial Association was able to run a normal indoor season with competitions taking place from late November 2019 until mid March of 2020. Athletics Alberta has recently released the provincial rankings for all of the age groups that took part in those competitions. Passtrak athletes did themselves & their club proud as 10 of them are ranked in the top 10 in Alberta in a total of 37 events. Not too shabby for a small club in a small town with no track & field facilities!! In the U10 boys age group, Jasper Smith was ranked in the top 10 in Alberta in 6 events: 8th in the shot-put, 5th in the 600 metres, 4th in the 150 metres & 3rd in the 400 metres, standing long jump & running long jump. Two of Passtrak’s U10 girls made the rankings list. Marley Winter was ranked in 5 events: 7th in the standing long jump, 6th in the running long jump & 5th in the 60 metres, 150 metres & 600 metres. Cammy Hay made the list in 6 events: 7th in the 60 metres, 6th in the 150 metres & 600 metres, 4th in the 400 metres & running long jump & number 1 in Alberta in the standing long jump. Colton Sutherland ranked 9th in Alberta in the U12 boys standing long jump. Cohen Musschoot ranked in 3 events in the U12 boys division: 3rd in the 60 metres, 2nd in the 400 metres & number 1 in Alberta in the 150 metres. Eve Winter hit the provincial charts ranking 5th in the U14 girls 400 metres. In the U16 boys category Sawyer Sawatzky nailed down 2 spots with a 10th place ranking in the shotput & 9th place in the high jump. Also in the U16 boys group, Jack Bailey scored 5 top 10 rankings. He is listed as 10th in the 60 metre hurdles, 9th in the shotput, 8th in running long jump, 4th in the pentathlon & number 2 in Alberta in the 400 metres. Clara Websdale claimed the number 10 ranking in Alberta in the U16 girls 400 metres. Craig Hay represented the club excellently in the Masters Mens 35 - 39 year old age group. He made the top 10 list in 7 events. He ranked number 2 in Alberta in the 60 metres, 200 metres, 300 metres, 400 metres, 600 metres & 800 metres. He also claimed the number 1 spot in Alberta in the 1000 metres.

PASSTRAK CULMINATES CROSS COUNTRY SEASON On Saturday November 7th, 12 Passtrak athletes attended the clubs 3rd & final competition of the 2020 cross country running season. The meet was held in Calgary & it was the Alberta Provincial Championships for all age groups. Three of the athletes were running in their first race of the season. Eve Winter competed in the U14 girls 2 km event. She completed the course in 11:50 & placed 26th. Younger sister Marley, ran in the U10 girls 1 km race where she finished in 4th place in 5:53. Jasper Smith was also running his first race & he grabbed a Provincial Championship silver medal for his 3rd place finish in the U10 boys 1 km race. His time was 5:12. Two Passtrak athletes were running in their 3rd competition of the season. Olivia Foster ran the U16 girls 4 km race in 25:56 for 25th place. That was more than 3 minutes per km faster than her previous best pace. Jack Bailey was in the 4 km U16 boys event which he completed in 19:35. He also improved his pace from his previous race by 22 seconds per km. The remaining 7 athletes ran the exact same distance on the exact same course as their previous race. That is a very rare occurrence in cross country running. That allowed them an opportunity to achieve a personal best performance. All 7 athletes rose to the occasion & crossed their respective finish lines in personal record times. Holden Lach finished 8th in the U10 boys 1 km event & he cut 1 minute 36 seconds off his previous time. Felix Neniska finished 9th in the U10 boys 1 km event & he cut 1 minute 16 seconds off his previous time. Cammy Hay placed 5th in the U10 girls 1 km race cutting 51 seconds off her previous time. Eli Bailey placed 16th in the U12 boys 1.2 km run where he sliced 1 minute 29 seconds off his previous time. Nate Lach placed 11th in the U12 boys 1.2 km run & he reduced his time by 1 minute 15 seconds. Colton Sutherland placed 6th in the U12 boys 1.2 km race where he improved his time by 55 seconds. Craig Hay chopped a huge 6 minutes & 5 seconds off his previous time by completing the Masters mens 8 km race in 42:45 for a silver medal second place finish in the 35 - 49 age group.

U10, U12, U14 & Masters 2020 Provincial Indoor Championships

2020 ALBERTA PROVINCIAL INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE U10, U12, U14 & MASTERS AGE GROUPS Athletics Alberta, the governing body for track & field in Alberta, staged the first half of the 2020 Provincial Indoor Track & Field Championships in Edmonton on February 15th & 16th. This meet covered all the events for the U10, U12, U14 & Masters age groups. There were 9 Passtrak athletes who took part in 56 events. They produced 20 life time best performances, set 11 new Passtrak club records & picked up 8 medals along the way. Cammy Hay had 8 events in the U10 girls age group. She placed 6th in the 60 metres in 11.01 seconds, 5th in the 150 metres in 28.84 seconds & 5th in the 600 metres in 2:44.92. She cut 5 seconds off her previous best in the 300 metres by running 1:04.83 for 4th place. In the field events she placed 7th in the shot put with a 3.50 metre toss & set a new Passtrak club record for her age by leaping 3.02 metres in the long jump for 4th place. A second place finish in the medicine ball throw added 40 cm to her previous best by measuring 3.62 metres. She took first place in the standing long jump & set a new club record & a new personal best with a distance of 1.84 metres. Marley Winter was also in the U10 girls age group. She placed 5th in the 60 metres with a life time best of 10.47 seconds, took 6th place in the 150 metres in 29.13 seconds & finished 5th in the 300 metres in 1:07.17. Her shot put measured 3.61 metres for 6th while her medicine ball toss was 3.22 metres for 5th. She beat the existing Passtrak club record for her age in both the standing long jump & running long jump where her distances were 1.52 metres & 2.71 metres respectively for 7th & 6th place. Jasper Smith completed 8 events in the U10 boys division. He had only competed in 2 of those previously & he proceeded to improve in both. He ran 11.22 seconds for 6th in the 60 metres & 28.13 seconds in the 150 metres for 4th. He set new Passtrak club records in 4 of his new events. He ran 1:05.58 in the 300 metres for 4th place, jumped 3.01 metres in the running long jump for 3rd place, cut 13 seconds off the previous record in the 600 metres by finishing 4th in 2:28.52 & cleared 1.60 metres in the standing long jump adding 9 cm to the previous record & finishing 4th. In the shot put he took 7th place with a 3.27 metre heave & tossed the medicine ball 3.26 metres for 5th. Carson Hay posted 4 personal best performances in his 8 events in the U12 boys category. His running long jump increased by 60 cm to 2.84 metres for 13th & his standing long jump improved by 9 cm to 1.60 metres for 11th place. He added 10 cm to his shot put best with a 17th place 4.46 metre toss & he cut 5 seconds off his previous 300 metre best by clocking 1:09.51 for 18th. In his other 4 events he finished 21st in the 60 metres in 13.15 seconds, 17th in the 600 metres in 2:35.98, 20th in the 150 metres in 32.91 seconds & 11th in medicine ball throw with a 3.75 metre performance. Eve Winter had 4 races & 4 field events in the U14 girls division. In her races she placed 21st in the 60 metres in 9.62 seconds, 33rd in the 150 metres in 24.68 seconds, 39th in the 600 metres in 2:27.05 & 40th in the 1000 metres in 4:32.87. Her 4 field events placed her 17th in the high jump with a height of 1.15 metres, 36th in the medicine ball with a toss of 2.94 metres, 23rd in the long jump with a 3.36 metre leap & 21st in the shot put with a mark of 4.93 metres. Cohen Musschoot had 4 events in the U14 boys category. He cleared 1.10 metres in the high jump for 13th & ran 3:37.51 in the 1000 metres for 11th. He placed 5th in the shot put with a 7.21 metre performance then pushed the medicine ball out to 5.44 metres which placed him 4th & added over a metre to the existing Passtrak club record. Sawyer Sawatzky was in the U16 boys age group where he had a stellar meet improving in all 3 of the events he had previously contested. His 60 metre time improved to 9.19 seconds for 15th, he added 83 cm to his best long jump by spanning 4.48 metres for 8th place & he improved his high jump best by an amazing 35 cm to finish in 3rd. His 60 metre hurdle time of 11.75 seconds placed him 5th & a 6.82 metre toss in the shot put landed him in 4th. Jack Bailey was crowned as Passtrak’s top athlete of the meet. He improved significantly in all 6 of his events. He placed 11th in the 60 metres in 8.63 seconds & placed 3rd in the 60 metre hurdles in 10.76 seconds. He then carved 22 seconds off his previous 1200 metre time placing 6th in 4:11.16. He added 5 cm to his high jump best clearing 1.40 metres for 4th then added 80 cm to his previous shot put distance by heaving the steel ball 7.61 metres for 3rd place. His long jump improved by 60 cm when he landed at the 4.91 metre mark for 6th place. Passtrak’s veteran, Craig Hay, ran 2 races in the Masters age group. He cut 3 seconds off his 400 metre time to place first in 1:08.81 then the following day grabbed a second Provincial Championship gold medal for his 2:48.75 in the 800 metres. Both times set new Passtrak club records for his age group. The second half of the Provincial Championships will take place in Edmonton February 29th & March 1st which will include all the events for the U16, U18, U20 & Open age groups.

2020 Dino Classic

DINO CLASSIC INDOOR TRACK MEET RESULTS The Dino Classic Track Meet took place at the University of Calgary on Sunday January 26th. It was the final chapter of a 3 meet series that started in early December. The athletes received points for their placing each time they competed in a race. At the end of the 3rd track meet all the points were added up and the top 3 male & female point scorers in each age group were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals. Passtrak had 6 athletes who earned themselves some hardware for their efforts. Cammy Hay received a gold medal for first overall in the under 10 girls category and Marley Winter picked up the bronze medal in the same age group. Colton Sutherland grabbed a silver medal in the 11 year old boys division. Eve Winter placed first overall for the gold in the 12 year old girls group. Jack Bailey earned a silver medal in the 15 year old boys group and Craig Hay also picked up a silver medal in the Masters division. Passtrak had 8 athletes who took part in this third instalment of the 2020 series. They competed in 21 events where they produced 9 life time best performances and earned 3 third place finishes for their efforts. Marley Winter ran the fastest 60 metres of her life in 10.74 seconds for 3rd place. She also ran the fastest 150 metres of her life in 27.45 seconds for 4th place then finished the day running the 600 metres for the first time & placing 3rd in 2:35.66. Marley was in the 9 year old girls events. Cammy Hay joined Marley in the 9 year old girls group. She ran the fastest 60 metres of her life as well in 10.88 seconds for 4th place. She then placed 5th in the 150 metres in 27.90 seconds & finished the day in 4th place in the 600 metres with a time of 2:44.40. Hayley Labun completed her first competition in a Passtrak uniform. She was in the 10 year old girls category where she ran 12.50 seconds for 5th in the 60 metres. Her 150 metre time was 32.30 seconds for 5th place as well. Carson Hay had 2 events in the 11 year old boys group. He ran a personal best in the 150 metres in 32.47 seconds for 12th place & 2:37.68 in the 600 metres for 8th place. Cohen Folkard completed 3 events also in the 11 year old boys division. He ran the 60 metres in 11.51 seconds for 11th, 30.74 seconds in the 150 metres for 11th & 2:36.23 in the 600 metres for 7th. Eve Winter emerged as Passtrak’s top athlete of the meet. She improved in all 3 of her events in the 12 year old girls age group. Her 60 metre time was 9.55 seconds for 5th place, her 150 metre time was 24.05 seconds for 7th place and her 600 metre time was 2:18.91 which which cut more than 12 seconds off her previous time for a 4th place finish. Clara Websdale had a 9th place finish in the 14 year old girls 60 metres where she clocked 9.96 seconds. She placed 9th once again in the 300 metres in 55.69 seconds. In her 1000 metre race she chopped 1 minute & 3 seconds off her previous time to finish 4th in 4:08.75. Jack Bailey represented Passtrak in the 15 year old boys division. He took 4th place in the 60 metre hurdles in 10.99 seconds then proceeded to slash over 12 seconds off his previous best time in the 1000 metres. He placed 3rd in that event in 3:29.27.

2020 Jack Simpson Open

JACK SIMPSON OPEN INDOOR TRACK MEET The first track & field competition of 2020 took place at the University of Calgary on January 5th. Passtrak had 10 athletes who contested 29 events. They accumulated 23 top 3 finishes along with 12 life time best performances. Along the way they also set 5 new Passtrak club records. Marley Winter completed her first competition in a Passtrak uniform. She had 3 events in the U10 girls age group. She placed first in the 60 metres in 10.90 seconds and first in the 300 metres in 1:03.23. That was a new Passtrak club record for her age group. She finished third in the 150 metres in 27.96 seconds to round out the day. Cammy Hay was in the same category and the same 3 events. She placed second in the 60 metres in 11.02 seconds which was a life time best performance. She ran the fastest 150 metres of her life in 27.62 seconds for a first place finish. In the 300 metres she took second place in 1:09.32. Carson Hay had 2 fourth place finishes in the boys U12 division. He clocked 33.49 seconds in the 150 metres and 1:14.39 in the 300 metres. Colton Sutherland had 3 second place finishes in the same age group. He recorded 10.81 seconds in the 60 metres, 28.87 seconds in the 150 metres and 1:00.60 in the 300 metres. Also in the U12 boys events, Cohen Folkard scored 3 third place finishes. He timed 11.51 seconds in the 60 metres, 30.13 seconds in the 150 metres and 1:12.95 in the 300 metres. Eve Winter earned the title of Passtrak’s top athlete of the track meet by improving in all 3 of her events. In the girls U14 age group she placed first in the 60 metres in 9.69 seconds and first in the 150 metres in 24.40 seconds. In her third event, the 400 metres, she placed third in 1:23.20. Clara Websdale represented the club in the U16 girls category. She placed seventh in the 60 metres in 10.04 seconds and fifth in the 150 metres in 25.24 seconds. She chopped a massive 18 seconds off her personal best in the 400 metres by finishing in 1:21.37 for third place. Jack Bailey placed third in the U16 boys 60 metres in 8.82 seconds. He then cut 5 seconds off his previous best 400 metre time by taking second place in 1:10.50. His third event was the 60 metre hurdles where he ran a personal best of 10.86 seconds for second place. Alec Morado was in the boys U18 events. He came ninth in the 60 metres where he tied his best ever of 8.09 seconds. He ran the fastest 300 metres of his life in 43.77 seconds to place eighth then completed the 600 metre race in 1:48.76 for third place. Craig Hay represented the club in the Masters category. He ran 8.96 seconds in the 60 metres for third place which also set a new Passtrak club record. He set his second club record of the day in the 300 metres where he placed first in a life time best of 48.69 seconds. To continue the streak he set a third club record in the 600 metres and another life time best by finishing first in 2:00.07.
