ALBERTA PROVINCIAL TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS Eight Passtrak athletes took part in the 2018 Alberta Provincial Track & Field Championships which were held in Calgary on July 14th & 15th. In total they contested 37 events and recorded 21 life time best performances, set 6 new Passtrak club records and brought home 4 gold and 1 silver medal for their efforts. Summer Musschoot had 8 events in the U14 girls division. She achieved a life time best result in 5 of those events. She completed the 1200 metre race in 4:47.50 which cut 23 seconds off her previous time. She improved her distance in the discus event by more than 2 metres out to 13.55 metres. Her 800 metre time dropped by 5 seconds down to 3:00.23 and her shot put distance increased by 29 cm to 6.85 metres. Her time of 22.80 seconds in the 150 metre race was a personal best and also set a new Passtrak club record for her age group. Clara Websdale contested the same 8 events in the U14 girls division as well. She came away from the track meet with 4 new personal best performances. Her 80 metre sprint improved to 14.25 seconds and she cut 5 seconds off her 1200 metre time to finish in 5:29.36. Her jumping also improved. She added 11 cm to her best long jump, landing at the 3.11 metre mark and cleared 1.00 metre in the high jump. Jack Bailey represented the club in the U14 boys category. He had 8 events as well and had an outstanding weekend, improving in 7 events. His 80 metre time dropped to 12.91 seconds, his 150 metre time dropped to 24.91 seconds, his 800 metre time dropped to 3:00.00 on the nose and his 1200 metre time dropped by 5 seconds to 5:29.36. He cleared a personal best of 1.25 metres in the high jump and added 11 cm to his best long jump by spanning 3.58 metres. His shot put distance increased by 71 cm out to 6.97 metres. Libbey Wilmot had 6 events in the U16 girls group. She improved her 80 metre hurdles time to 16.10 seconds and tied her life time best of 1.35 metres in the high jump. She set a new Passtrak club record in her age group of 7:56.73 in the 2000 metre race. Paige Richards was also in the U16 girls age group. She picked up a silver medal in the 80 metre hurdles. Her time of 12.48 seconds ranks her as the number 2 hurdler in Alberta currently. It was a life time best performance for her which also set a new Passtrak club record for her age group. Paige has been selected to Team Alberta to compete in this event at the Western Canadian Championships which will take place in Sherwood Park on July 27th - 29th. Mathias Gelber ran one race on the weekend but it was a fabulous one. He was in the U18 boys 800 metre race where he completed the event in 1:55.17 for the gold medal and the Provincial Championship title. This was a personal best for Mathias as well as a new Passtrak club record for his age group. This result currently ranks him as #1 in Alberta as well as #7 in Canada. Ethan Richards ran 2 sprint events in the U20 division. He placed 15th in the 100 metres in 11.95 seconds and 19th in the 200 metres in 24.95 seconds. Sue-Anne Uphill rounded out the Passtrak contingent for the weekend, competing in the Masters 40 - 44 age group. She completed 3 events and was crowned the Alberta Provincial Champion in all 3. She earned the gold medal in the long jump with a 4.09 metre leap. She then grabbed gold in the 100 metres in 14.73 seconds which was a personal best and a new Passtrak club record. Her third gold medal came in the shot put where she tossed the steel ball 7.80 metres which also set a new Passtrak club record. Five Passtrak athletes, Paige Richards, Libbey Wilmot, Payton Bauer, Mackenzie Mayea & Mathias Gelber were selected to compete at the 2018 Alberta Summer Games. The Games will take place in Grande Prairie on July 19 - 22.
