2018 Caltaf Track Classic
PASSTRAK ATHLETES SET NEW STANDARDS AT CALGARY COMPETITION Passtrak was represented at the Caltaf Classic track meet in Calgary last weekend by thirteen athletes. Finley Wilmot competed in two events coming just short of his personal best in shot put with a throw of 2.81 metres and jumping just under two metres in his long jump. Reese Parsons was able to set a new personal best in the long jump touching down at 2.90 metres. It was his first time throwing shotput and with a performance of 3.75 metres he will have to try hard next time for a new personal best. His performance in the 600 metre earned him a sixth-place finish with a time of 2:15.06. The Crowsnest Pass based Uphill family was strongly represented by Harley, Zack and mom Sue-Anne. Harley set new club records in the 60 metre dash with a time of 10.36 and a standing long jump performance of 1.41 metres. Zack finished second over all in the ball throw event with a throw of 26 metres and he managed a fifth-place finish in standing long jump with a jump of 1.81 metres. Sue- Anne competed in the Masters category and achieved two personal bests running the 100 metre sprint in 15.10 seconds and jumping 4.17 metres in long jump. Her distance in the long jump set a new Masters record at the Calgary track for other Masters women to strive for. Clara Websdale represented our Bantam aged athletes in high jump, discus, 800 metres, 80 metre dash, long jump, shotput and the 600 metres. She was able to raise her personal best by almost two metres in discus throwing 12.5 metres and lowered her 80 metre sprint time to 14.33 seconds. With the addition of the 80 metre hurdles Jack Bailey and Sawyer Sawatzky competed in the same events as Clara. Sawyer set new personal bests in the hurdles, high jump and discus clearing a height of 1.25 metres for the first time in competition. Jack followed suite with some personal best performances of his own extending his long jump to 1.47 metres and lengthening his discus best to 17.05 metres. Paige Richards, Payton Bauer and Libbey Wilmot represented Passtrak well in the Midget girls category. Paige placed third over all in the 80 metre hurdles setting a new personal best of 12.63 seconds. Her hurdle time has qualified her to compete this summer at the Canadian National Championships in Brandon Manitoba. Payton earned a personal best performance in her 100 metre dash running 14.52 seconds. Libbey competed in five events tying her high jump best and showing great consistency in her athletic ability in the other four coming just shy of some more personal best performances. Mathias Gelber ran life time bests of 1:57.18 in the 800 metres and 4:05.98 in the 1500 metres. That qualifies him for the Canadian National Championships in both events. That makes it the third year in a row he will be competing at that event. It was a great three days of competition and also a fantastic opportunity to learn more for all athletes.
